Investigative Journalist

Bio: Aaron Leibowitz is a investigative journalist for ProPublica. He is investigating the work of how technology is now evolving into school lives. He reports with Sarah Karp, from WBEZ on how Chicago Public Schools Monitored Social Media for Signs of Violence, Gang Membership.

Aaron’s article is not completely the same as mine, he still covers the fact of how social media is tied into school. His investigative work will not stop here, they mention that they find a student who hangs out with gang members, but will not give their names. He will continue to dig and not stop there. He does not just cover the story of that one school, he talks about the overall use of social media violence. The topic is about Chicago Public schools, but he keeps going and investigates further by talking to a professor from Columbia University.

Draw: Aaron does not just do this because of his job but because he genuinely cares about the topic he writes about. He seems very dedicated to his work, and very investigative and willing to go the extra mile.

Similarities: We both cover the fact of the effect that technology can have in our own ways. He talks about it in the case of student safety, while i write about how it may help or not in academic areas.

Update 1: Aaron’s Twitter Feed

I found Aaron’s twitter page. He states that he reports on Boston courts. As I went through his twitter he seems to be interested in journaling about topics for the people. He cares about children and parents, such as an article about a child dying after being detained by the US border patrol. Although this is not his article he still retweeted it because he cares about the problems our world is creating. He cares about family connections in general and posts a lot about that on this twitter.

Aaron doesn’t seem to be active on his twitter to often. His last post was April 12, 2019. Its now May 21, 2019 and he hasn’t post anything new. He focuses more on his research and articles rather than his live tweeting. He does not keep us updated, which could lose some readers if he does not change that.

Update 2: Most Recent Article

Aaron Leibowitz has not posted anything since February 11th. Maybe he is inconsistent in his work, or maybe he is just working on a bigger post that needs to have more investigation. His last post on ProPublica was on February 11th was Chicago Public Schools Monitored Social Media for Signs of Violence, Gang Membership. It is the only article he has on this site. Maybe he likes to post in other sites with other people, or he might just started and is working on his next article.

He talks about the work of how social media is dangerous to public schools. He mentions a student who is friends with gang members, who posts about it on social media. They use this to try and prevent a danger in a school environment. He continues to follow this up by trying to find the names of the gang members since the one who hangs with them will not give names. His work seems to be for the people. He writes about real life problems not entertainment topics like sports.

Update 3: Aaron’s Concern

Aaron writes many articles on school threats and social media. He talks about how posting things/photos/threats online can help stop violence at schools. One article is about how social media can stop the next school shooting. He is concerned and cares about the safety of the future of Americans, or anywhere in the world. He wants to make sure everyone can live a long happy and safe life with no concern of safety. He has written at least three different articles with school safety. He also covers the point of social media use in school as I do. He is over a community person, not just the safety of school, but he also just cares and writes articles for the people.

Update 4: Other Articles

Some of his other articles are based off of Jewish beliefs. His writer name is known as Jewish World Blogger, so he obviously covers a lot of topics on Jewish people. He has many Jewish articles such as Is There a Place in Jewish Law for Observing ‘Half Shabbat’? He is very involved in his peoples work and beliefs. He stays active and updated with new news on Jewish problems or beliefs.
